Laboratory staff including Master and PhD students, post-doctoral fellows, researchers, lab managers and principal investigators (PI) are recommended to be immunized by Tetanus and Hepatitis B.
Laboratory staff who refuses to receive the vaccine component, will sign a statement regarding his refusal to be vaccinated, and return it to the safety unit (2147, 2146).
The vaccines can be obtained in all Medical Heath Care Centers (Kupat Holim) in the following way:
- Contact the family doctor at your Medical Center to get the vaccine prescription. The vaccine is obtained at the Medical Center pharmacy and the vaccination is administered by the nurses at the center.
- To the extent that there is participation in the cost of the vaccine, the expense will be reimbursed to the lab staff against a receipt, from the budget of the PI or the unit the staff is associated with.
Vaccination of Technion employees:
Persons working with animals Tetanus (every 10 years)
Following a needlestick or a wound incident that occurred in the lab (accompanied by bleeding) Tetanus vaccination must be given within 48 hours (according to the vaccination booklet)
Workers that work with bloods/ body fluids/ human tissues that did not undergo fixation Hepatitis B (HBV)
Persons that work with bats Rabies
Workers with rabies viruses Rabies
Workers with diphtheria toxin DT vaccine
Lab workers conducting research on sewage and/ or treated waste water Hepatitis A and Polio
Plumber HBV, Polio and Tetanus
Vaccination of lab workers:
who come into contact with tissues and body fluids Hepatitis B (who were not vaccinated)
Workers and students who come into contact with animals Tetanus ( were not vaccinated against tetanus during the last 10 years)
